Significant Start to Fundraising & Support

News Update

Since the public meeting a month ago, the existing Trustees have met on 3 occasions to progress several issues:

We have finalised the new Trust website www.southwellleisurecentre.co.uk and started a new Trust Facebook page www.facebook.com/SouthwellLeisureCentreTrust , with significant help from Cath Rolinson and Jo Harbord.

We have had discussions about the work needed to repair the pool and to debate the disparity in the quotes received so far. We are likely to be seeking further quotes soon.

We have sorted the advert for new Trustees and members of the Advisory Group, on this website, on the Facebook page and as flyers and posters. We are very pleased that 20 people have expressed interest in joining one or other body so far. We will be getting around to meeting everyone who has applied soon and we hope for more interest also.

We have to change the operating document for the Trust (the Scheme of Administration) and gain Charity Commission approval for this. Both NSDC and STC have confirmed that there is no objection from them to us doing this or to making the Trust a body completely independent from them.

We have made some progress with fundraising, though this is a complicated process. However we have had pledges of more than £10,000 so far, which is a great start. Some of this money will be used for further legal advice in relation to the lease, though we are pleased that one of the people expressing interest is an experienced lawyer and he has already provided pro bono advice.

Several of us toured the Leisure Centre at the beginning of June, to look at current facilities and what might need to be upgraded or changed to ensure better disability access. We talked with senior members of A4T staff on this tour.

We plan to have another public meeting before long, to ensure that people have access to the latest information, though this website and facebook are the best way for everyone to stay in the loop.
