Southwell Leisure Centre –Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions answered about the future of your leisure centre.

1. What’s happening at Southwell Leisure Centre?

Southwell Leisure Centre will enter an exciting new chapter in April 2026, when a new operator takes over day-to-day management.

The Trust will confirm who the new operator is by December 2025. We are confident that the operator we appoint will be best placed to help us achieve our strategic objectives, which include:

  • Repairing and reopening the main swimming pool as a key community facility.

  • Investing in and modernising the wider Leisure Centre to create a welcoming, accessible, and energy-efficient environment.

  • Expanding the range of affordable health, fitness, and wellbeing programmes to meet the needs of all ages and abilities.

  • Ensuring long-term financial sustainability, so the Centre can thrive for decades to come.

2. Why is the operator changing?

Southwell Leisure Centre is currently operated by Active4Today on behalf of the Trust. Active4Today has confirmed that, while their operating model isn’t the right long-term fit for Southwell, they will continue to support the Centre until the end of March 2026.

This means customers will continue to be supported, and services will carry on as normal while we go through the process of appointing a new long-term operator.

3. What does this mean for members?

Because Southwell Leisure Centre will no longer be part of the A4T group, any A4T members who wish to continue using Southwell Leisure Centre will be able to easily cancel their current memberships with no penalty.

This will enable members to rejoin Southwell Leisure Centre with the new operator once the new memberships are available.

The building, facilities, and community will remain the same, and members will have the opportunity to explore the new flexible membership options designed specifically for Southwell.

4. Will I lose my membership before April?

No. If you are an A4T member, your current membership will continue to run with A4T until their management period ends at the end of March 2026.

If you wish to continue using the facilities up to that point, you can keep your membership active as normal.

5. Will prices or memberships change?

Membership options and pricing will be set by the new operator once they take over.

The Trust has asked the incoming operator to ensure that memberships remain fair, flexible, and great value for money, with a strong focus on supporting our community and families.

More details will be shared early next year.

6. How can I make sure I’m kept up to date?

We’d love to keep you informed about the changeover, new memberships, and opening offers.

Please sign up to our “Keep in Touch” list by scanning the QR code at reception or visiting https://www.southwellleisurecentre.co.uk/keep-in-touch

It only takes 30 seconds and ensures you’ll be first to hear about updates, rejoin offers, and community events.

7. Will the staff and instructors stay the same?

Many of the familiar faces you know from Southwell Leisure Centre are expected to continue under the new operator.

We’re committed to maintaining the friendly, local team that makes the centre such a welcoming place.

8. Will there be any closure during the changeover?

We do not anticipate any major closure period. The Trust and both operators are working together to ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruption to users.

If any short closures are required for handover or improvements, we’ll communicate these well in advance.

9. What improvements can we expect?

The new operator will bring fresh investment and updated services to the centre, supporting the Trust’s goals of reopening the main swimming pool, modernising the facilities, and expanding affordable health and wellbeing programmes.

More details on planned upgrades will be shared closer to the handover date.
