As indicated in our last blog post, the Trustees in early January contacted the mediators named in the lease agreement between NSDC and ourselves to initiate the process. We received a response on 10 January, with details of possible mediators and dates. The mediators confirmed that the process would not be drawn-out but would be focused on a single day of mediation activity, with some initial preparation time.
We immediately forwarded this response to NSDC, for them to confirm willingness to engage in mediation, as had previously been stated by officers. We followed this up with a letter to NSDC’s legal advisors. We did receive a communication that they wished to take further legal advice, but we have received no confirmation on mediation from NSDC as yet. We very much hope it will come in soon.
In anticipation of the mediation occurring in the near future, I decided that we should not proceed with a public meeting at this time. However, should mediation not proceed, then a further public meeting will be arranged during March 2025.

The Trustees are very grateful to Southwell Town Councillors for their expression of support for the mediation process, as discussed by them at Full Council in late January.
